Standalone Copilot and app-scoped Copilot have additional settings and can bill usage through a Fabric Copilot capacity (FCC) or an eligible workspace. Check the requirements for the experience your team will actually use.

How to use Copilot well

Name things clearly. Replace Column1, Sum of Amt, and cryptic table names with human-readable names. Copilot uses these names to interpret questions.

Write field and measure descriptions. Adding descriptions to measures and columns gives Copilot the context it needs to choose the right field. This single step often has the biggest impact on accuracy.

Use a clean star schema. Properly defined relationships and a tidy fact-and-dimension structure help Copilot navigate the model correctly. Snowflaked or ambiguous models produce confused answers.

Curate measures rather than relying on implicit aggregation. Pre-built, well-named measures give consistent results; letting Copilot infer aggregations invites error.

Review every output. Treat DAX and narrative output as a first draft from a capable but fallible junior analyst. Verify before you publish.
